Sustainability Event Specialist
Who is and what does the Sustainability Event Specialist do
The Sustainability Event Specialist designs and manages sustainable events, reducing their environmental and social impact without compromising the quality of the experience. They work on waste, energy, mobility, responsible catering and the choice of low-impact suppliers and venues.
They apply industry standards and certifications (such as ISO 20121), define the event’s sustainability goals and measure and report its impact. It is an increasingly requested role for companies, public bodies and tenders, where sustainability is now a requirement rather than an option.
Skills required
Knowledge of green event standards (ISO 20121) and ESG criteria, the ability to measure and report impact, sustainable supplier and logistics management, project management and sensitivity to responsible communication. Rigour, vision and the ability to balance creative, budget and environmental goals are needed.
Salary
As an emerging, specialised role, pay is competitive. In Italy, indicatively, a junior profile starts at around €25,000–30,000 gross per year, a mid-level around €38,000–46,000, while senior figures can reach €55,000–65,000 gross per year (market estimates).
